It was a year of artistic breakthroughs — and drama. The revived Davido-Wizkid feud and Rema’s bold claim to reclaim Afrobeats made headlines. Amidst the chaos, however, the music shone through.

10. Rema – Ozeba

The Sarz-produced “Ilashe” highlights one of Lagos’ popular hotspots, featuring typical Ruger & BNXN melodies with a touch of log drums. With its striking hook, the song was certain to have its moment.

8. Omah Lay – Moving

Omah lay appears to have shed his “sad boy” image, as evident in his recent singles, including “Moving”. On this record, his distinctive vocals instantly command attention, coupled with a catchy hook, making it a guaranteed anthem on dance floors. 

 With “Moving”, it’s clear that Omah Lay is on a roll, and this momentum is expected to carry over into his sophomore album next year.

7. Ayo Maff – Are you there?

As a rising star in the street pop scene, Ayo Maff does not rest on his laurels after the success of “Dealer”. Instead, he returns with “Are You There”, a song that captures his resilience and showcases his artistic range.

Ayo Maff’s approach is unapologetically niche; he sings for the everyday person on the streets who can relate to his experiences. This is evident on “Are You There”, and what better way to end the year than a remix with the serial hit maker, Ayra Starr.

6. Burna Boy – Higher

Following a successful 2023, Burna Boy kicked off 2024 with “Higher.” This mid-tempo single is enhanced by the soulful vocals of Seyi Vibez, who brings a familiar warmth to the track, thanks to their previous collaboration on “Giza.” On “Higher”, Burna Boy expresses heartfelt gratitude for life and his achievements.

5. Llona – Can’t Breathe

As the song and its remix continue to gain traction on music charts, it is clear that FOLA has set himself as a star on the horizon.

2. Dai Verse – Salt

In the Nigerian music scene, where trends sometimes overshadow substance, Dai Verse’s “Salt” stands out as it excels not just in harmony but also in lyrical depth and thematic exploration. On this track, he explores themes of faith in one’s own path and surrendering to God.

Tems has successfully distinguished herself in her chosen genre. In a market dominated by Afrobeats, she has carved out a space and embraced her authenticity by emphasising the R&B sound.
