“Shalewa” is an Afropop number with subtle latin influences. On the song, Esjay declares his love and affection for his muse, “Shalewa”.

While the subject matter is far from original, Esjay’s delivery is reminiscent of a 2016 Wizkid— a cross between his Afropop sensibilities and his knack for slow burners. It’s no wonder that Wizkid is cited as one of Esjay’s major Influences.

With a melodious beat, surefire delivery and a voice that harkens to a legend, Esjay’s debut is good. It does just enough to keep us invested in his career that has just kicked off.

We honestly can’t wait for more.

You can listen to “Shalewa” here.
