The contest is organised by lawyer and entrepreneur Akinyemi Ayinoluwa and powered by Amelia Songs. The competition will see the winner walk home with a cash prize of $1,000 and career consultation with a major label A&R.

The Akinyemilaw Songwriting Contest is an annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena. It is further designed to nurture the musical talent of songwriters on all levels and promote excellence in the art of songwriting. 

Amateur and professional songwriters and musicians from anywhere in the world are invited to participate. Amelia Songs has put together some of the most impressive leaders from the Nigerian music industry to act as the panel of judges for this competition. Afterwards participants must write and record a song over the instrumental and post with lyrics on Instagram using the hashtag #AkinyemiLawSongChallenge in the caption.
