Nigerian-born music superstar, business visionary and international nomad Mr Eazi has announced the formation of a new pan-African music group, Choplife Soundsystem. DJ Edu, an afrobeats selector and tastemaker, and an informal crew of contributors will form Choplife Soundsystem, with Mr Eazi as primary vocalist and MC at live events.

Choplife Soundsystem takes its name from both the historic soundsystems that form the foundation of Jamaican music culture and the well-known West African pidgin expression chop life, which means “enjoy life.” A soundsystem is a mobile group of DJs and MCs who perform music together at public events like street parties, clubs, and festivals.

International groups have recently added their unique spin to the style, such as producer Diplo’s Major Lazer project, functioning as both creators and performers of original music, as well as a tastemaking DJ crew.

The ever-visionary Mr Eazi is giving soundsystem culture a contemporary, African touch with Choplife Soundsystem by fusing genres like amapiano and afrobeats to create the ultimate African party experience, both on original studio recordings and at specially-curated live events.

Mr. Eazi “soft launched” Choplife Soundsystem in 2022 with events in Cotonou, Benin; Stockholm, Sweden; and Kigali, Rwanda, in an effort to bring the vibe and spirit of his well-known Ghanaian Christmas celebration Detty Rave on the road. Mr. Eazi will make further Choplife Soundsystem announcements later in the spring, including new music releases, partnerships, and live events.

“I’m going back to where I started from, hosting the biggest parties at uni,” Mr Eazi says. “That’s how I started singing. I am looking forward to this new and fun ride, and I can’t wait for all the music to start dropping and the accompanying live experience”
