One thing is sure, the intention of the makers of Chief Daddy 2 (and 1) is not to make one laugh or entertain, but to insult and ridicule its audience, all you get is a cringe-worthy film that lacks both in form and substance.
When the news of the sequel to Chief Daddy broke out, a lot of people were sceptical about it because why make a sequel of a terrible film? To make more money or correct the ills of the prequel? It is evident that the filmmakers only had the intention of making money.
Ebonylife films seem to have found a formula that works perfectly for the company—a myriad of top actors, a needless Dubai trip, Instagram skit-makers, a recycle of the same type of actors and characters, weak and mediocre plot and story— “Rinse and Repeat”
The disconnect between Nollywood filmmakers and the audience increases by the day, the fact that your “high budget” films rakes in huge figures and tops streaming platforms don’t necessarily mean the audience continually want those kinds of film or they did like the film.
No matter how glossy your cinematography is or even if the number of top actors in your movie is a hundred; if you substitute story for any other thing—all you’re going to get is a terrible film. It doesn’t matter if your lead actor is a Funke Akindele or a Genevieve— the core of filmmaking and storytelling will always be the STORY!
Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, The sequel continues from where the first part ended, the Beecroft family is going broke and they will do all they can to salvage the situation even if it means flying to “Dubai” for a goose chase. It stars Funke Akindele, Falz, Kate Henshaw, Rachel Oniga, Ini Edo, Shaffy Bello, Mawuli Gavor, Beverly Naya, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Uzor Arukwe, Linda Ejiofor Rahama Sadau, Broda Shaggi, Eso Dike, Dakore Egbuson, Zainab Balogun, Chioma omeruah (Chigurl), Nedu Wazobia, Beverly Osu, just to mention a few.
The story, as it may seem, is not the only issue with this film; the direction is faulty, so is the continuity and acting. Most of the actors look bored and tired. Some don’t even get enough screen time to shine (Ini Edo deserves an apology)
When did the seemingly gentle and calm psychology major, Ireti (Zainab Balogun) who was trying to bring the family together in the first part, end up in the sequel as a villain, who blogs and debases her family on YouTube?
The crux of part 2 was to get the company/money back from Laila (Rahama Sadau), Chief Daddy’s bastard daughter, how was it then resolved by creating an entertainment and sports division of the company? To what use was Laila purchasing Tinu and Teni’s store?
Tinu (Funke Akindele) and Teni’s (Kate Henshaw) decision to date the same man, was for what reason? Just to have fun? To defraud him? Or to get back at Laila through him? There is just a lot of Whys and no answer to them.
Chief Daddy 2 is a needless and lazily made movie. The film is marred by its unfunny, non-creative and unimaginative story, overcasting and poor direction and continuity.
